The Pandemic Has Led to a Huge, Global Drop in Air Pollution | WIRED
I discovered this while researching just how beneficial the pandemic and the lockdown impacts have been.
The correlations between the levels of pollution at the same places that are attributing the highest death rates during the epidemic are interesting.
The respiratory death rates in the months preceding the virus, were much higher than the virus-related death toll.
Over 100,000 people per month have been dying from “pollution” which is three times higher than the total “81,000” people diagnosed with the virus in China.
Both the pollution, and death rate from it have been dropping since the lockdown, but the pollution death toll drop is slower than the emissions drop.
Reductions in traffic and industry have lowered nitrogen dioxide levels—offering an accidental glimpse into what a low-carbon future might look like.
